Born in New Haven, Connecticut USA in 1949. Attended a private catholic high school at the urging of my parents. While the secular education was quite good, the experience has left me with a profound skepticism for all religions and all marketing efforts (snake oil). In 1967, I came to Boston to attend college and have never left the area. The late 60's and early 70's were a dynamic time. :-) Looking back, I am proud of having the "gumption" to attend Woodstock in the summer of '69. I graduated from Boston University majoring in literature and psychology and proceeded to work as a "non-conformist" with adolescents at local psychiatric hospitals for 8-9 years. In '81 I was awarded a masters degree from Harvard University in Organizational Behavior. Married with a 17 year old daughter and 12 year old son, both of whom play school and club soccer and basketball. I have become an excellent chauffeur. :-)

For nearly 10 years I worked in a Corporate Research group of Digital Equipment Corporation, primarily with research faculty across the US. This included a year at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab studying conceptual development and analogical reasoning, and four years at Harvard managing several research projects for DEC. During this time I took seminars in cognitive science, memory, cognitive neuroscience, mental models, law, science & technology etc. In early 1991, I joined Advanced Network & Services (ANS) to manage the National Science Foundation network (NSFnet), the US Internet. In late 1994, I was invited to join MCI to help them develop an Internet service and am currently a member of a small distributed Internet Architecture & Technology group. For 3 years now I have been trying to hone my skills as a nature photographer.

My introduction to Lila came in late 1991. While driving home from work listening to a daily public radio news program. Pirsig was speaking about his new book. I was so awe struck by how his comments resonated with my internal dialogues that I went out and bought the hardcover edition the next day. I've re-read Lila several times but really only began thinking harder about what Pirsig is saying the past 8 months.

It wasn't until July of this year that I bought the anniversary edition of ZAMM and read it on vacation along with lots of articles about Quantum Philosophy. Needless to say, I've not been the same since. :-)
